My experience as a volunteer guardian for the Guardian ad Litem program has been very rewarding. I initially became a guardian as a means to impact in my immediate community by becoming a role model. However, having served in this capacity for over a year, I feel that it has changed my way thinking about abused and neglected children in their plight for a voice in the judicial system.
My time as a guardian has consisted of me being a “big brother” and a mentor to two young brothers for nearly 11 months who were eventually reunited with their mother. Currently, I have three siblings that I visit with regularly who have been a constant source of laughter for the past eight months. Although I enjoy thee company and experiences shared with the children in my supervision, my goal and desire is for them to be reunited with their parents and a safe and healthy home.
